/ world today news/ Hundreds of supporters of the left celebrated the anniversary of the birth of Georgi Dimitrov in Kovachevtsi
BSP Chairman Mihail Mikov, representatives of the party leadership, hundreds of members and sympathizers of the left celebrated the 133rd anniversary of the birth of Georgi Dimitrov in his native Kovachevtsi. “Kovachevtsi gave Bulgaria, the socialist party, the international labor and communist movement, Europe and the world a worthy Bulgarian. A Bulgarian whose name is written in golden letters not only in Bulgarian history, it is written in golden letters in that struggle in which the workers, trade unionists, socialists, communists, farmers led in some dark years for Europe and the world” – with these the words of the BSP leader Mihail
Mikov addressed the crowd gathered in Kovachevtsi. He continued that Dimitrov left here, from a small village in Bulgaria, to reach and have his word heard in Leipzig, so that his speeches could be heard when the workers from the Pernik mines came out to seek their rights and when Europe must be protected from fascism and when Bulgaria, defeated in the Second World War, must preserve its borders. “Today, we, the grateful descendants, the people who understand that the leftist idea is ineradicable, we pay tribute to him, but we also pay tribute to all those who fought over the years for a more just and dignified life, for a freer one and democratic life”, said the chairman of the BSP. He recalled that a few days ago the vice-chairman of the Japanese Communist Party was in Kovachevtsi to pay his respects to the Bulgarian Georgi Dimitrov. “I say this for those who have no sense of national identity, no sense of historicity; those who think history can be trite. We need more solidarity and togetherness in order to stop those who want to tear pages from history, to prevent the destruction of what has been done, to seek more justice for those who earn their living with hard work”, said Mikov. He congratulated the residents and guests of Kovachevtsi, as well as the mayor of the municipality for his efforts to create better living conditions.
Earlier in the day, Mikov and the mayor of the municipality, Vasil Stanimirov, opened the Ethnographic Center “Survakari”, created with European funds. The chairman also visited the birthplace of Georgi Dimitrov.
The following also took part in the solemn celebration of the anniversary: Stanislav Vladimirov, the organizational secretary of the National Assembly of the BSP; the chairman of the Regional Council of the BSP – Pernik Nenko Temelkov, Ventsislav Todorov – chairman of the Municipal Council of the BSP – Kovachevtsi, Boris Tsvetkov – chairman of the Bulgarian Anti-Fascist Union, chairmen of municipal councils in the Pernik region, Georgi Dimitrov – grandson of Georgi Dimitrov.
