Mike Tyson Reveals His Toughest Opponent Was Not Who You Might Think

World heavyweight legend American Mike Tyson told which fight was the most difficult in his career. He believes that the most difficult opponent for him was not Larry Holmes, not Evander Holyfield, as many people think, but Pinklon Thomas, whom Iron Mike met in the ring back in 1987.

The boxer only recently reviewed the recording of this fight, at the insistence of his close friend, and was shocked at how strong and hardy his opponent turned out to be at that time. He took 17 of the most heavy blows to the jaw that Tyson could only perform, and fell to the canvas only after the last one, simply by simply turning off. If there was another boxer in the ring, the fight with him would have ended in the first rounds, and Pinklon Thomas managed to hold out until the sixth round.

It is worth clarifying that this fight took place on May 30, 1987. Then Pinklon Thomas was the former WBC world heavyweight boxing champion – he owned this belt from 1984 to 1986. Mike Tyson’s opponent was knocked down already in the first round, but he was finally defeated only in the 6th round. Then “Iron Mike” simply destroyed the opponent with a series of accurate blows performed with both hands at once.
