The eagerly awaited encounter between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will take place on Friday evening (local time) at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
Non-public weigh-in shows: Mike Tyson is “in shape”
The time has come: Mike Tyson will meet Jake Paul. With this morning’s weigh-in behind closed doors and no official weights announced, Tyson is expected to go into the fight with a weight advantage. Experts estimate that Paul, who has previously competed in the cruiserweight division, could weigh around 100 kg, as the Mirror writes. Tyson, who weighed around 106 kg in his last professional fight against Kevin McBride, could get into the ring with a similar weight.
Tyson and Paul will once again hold a public weigh-in in front of fans in Dallas, Texas tonight, German time, before stepping into the ring in front of at least 75,000 spectators in Dallas on Friday. Then the official weights for the “mega duel” will be announced, which will probably disappoint from a sporting point of view and in which one hopes that Mike Tyson will get out of the ring in one piece.
At the last press conference on Wednesday, Tyson was reserved, spoke only briefly and expressed his willingness to fight. “I’m just happy to be here. “I’m looking forward to the fight,” he said calmly when asked about his preparation. The fight, originally scheduled for July, had to be postponed after Tyson was hospitalized with an inflamed stomach ulcer. Now there are eight rounds of two minutes each on the program. Despite the deviation from the traditional three minutes per round in professional boxing for men, this fight is considered an official professional fight. And it goes even further: the gloves were also chosen to be slightly heavier at 14 ounces and therefore better padded. In addition, there should be no judges.
When asked skeptically whether the fight counts as a real professional fight, Tyson responded briefly: “The people speak for themselves. I don’t have to say anything else about it.” However, when asked about a possible defeat, the former champion showed determination: “I will don’t lose.”
Given the age difference between 58-year-old Tyson and 27-year-old Paul, the younger YouTube star is considered the favorite, even if many boxing fans don’t want to believe that. Nevertheless, Tyson remained unimpressed and calmly commented on the assessments: “I’m here to fight, that’s all that matters.”
However, Tyson, who has previously mocked Paul several times and described himself as a “born fighter”, has appeared more reserved in recent days. Nevertheless, the upcoming battle promises to captivate both fans and critics and bring an audience of millions to the streaming service Netflix.
