ARLINGTON, Texas — Mike Trout left the party that Angels won today by 8-3 against the Texas Rangers after being hit in the left hand by a pitch, but Los Angeles said X-rays ruled out an injury to the three-time AL MVP.
On a 1-1 count, Trout was hit on a slider by right-hander Spencer Patton when he started the Angels’ offense in the fifth inning. The center fielder said he had difficulty making out the 81 mph pitch in the shadows on a day when the roof of Globe Life Field was opened, and he lowered his hands to protect his midsection.
Mike Mayers (1-0) retired two of three batters late in the fifth inning in place of starter Jose Suarez. The Angels have won three straight for the first time since August of last year.
