Mike Babcock is making his coach comeback – Hockey-News.info

Mike Babcock has coached the gang in no less than 17 NHL seasons and led Canada to two Olympic gold medals as coach. Now Babcock is returning to an old place of work.

Between 2002 and 2019, the 57-year-old Canadian was the bench boss for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. In the 2007/08 season he was crowned Stanley Cup Champion with the Wings, and coached Team Canada to win two gold medals in Vancouver and Sochi.

His NHL coaching era ended on November 20, 2019 when the Toronto Maple Leafs kicked the Canadian out. Last season he took on the role of advisor at the University of Vermont, now Babcock is returning to Canada.

In 1981/82 he put on the jersey of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, now he is returning to Saskatoon and will be with the gang as a coach in the coming season. “I’m excited to be working with the Huskies in my hometown – at the university where I had the chance to play under legendary coach Dave King. This is a special place for me. Saskatchewan has given me many opportunities and opportunities in my life and career, and I’m very excited about the chance to give something back, ”said Babcock.

Next May Babcock will start his new coaching job with the huskies who play in the “USports” league. He is succeeding Dave Adolph, who is the most successful coach at Canadian university level and who has decided to take a well-deserved retirement after 27 years.
