Mikael Ymer’s Suspension and Elias Ymer’s Support: The Stockholm Open Tennis Tournament

The Stockholm Open begins on Monday. The classic tennis tournament does it without Mikael Ymer, who chose to end his career after being suspended for doping last summer.

The 25-year-old had failed three doping controls in the space of a year. Therefore, he was suspended and banned from performing any form of professional tennis.

However, the tournament will not be “Ymer-less”, as his brother, Elias will be there. And Elias Ymer has seen his little brother and family suffer up close.

– Now you see your parents… they see their child like that, it gets tough. When I go to practice… I always played with Mike. When I go to tournaments it’s with Mike, when I have dinner it’s with Mike. I have to find another player on the tour now, he says.

When asked how Mikael handles his suspension, Elias says:

– He takes it day by day. What to say? If he would like to make a comeback, he can’t do it until February 2025. So it’s difficult… Even if he continues to play, how would he set up training? You know, from the fact that he has his whole life ahead of him and then everything disappears for two years. It then takes some time to come back. I am there as a brother to him and help him as best I can. But it is a new situation. Not even in a nightmare can you think that he would be suspended for two years.
