According to the daily USA Today, the Swede will get his hands on a salary per season of around $ 8.5 million. It will be a great promotion for the 28-year-old center, whose contract, which averaged $ 5.35 million, was due to expire at the end of the next season.

In recent campaigns, Zibanejad has established himself as one of the best snipers in the National Hockey League. In 2019-2020, he set career highs for goals (41) and points (75).

Last year, he had a slow start to the season before exploding in March and April to end the season with 24 goals and 50 points in 56 games.

Drafted sixth by the Ottawa Senators in 2011, Zibanejad played five seasons there, before being traded to the Rangers in the deal that brought Derick Brassard to the Canadian capital.

“Since joining the team in 2016, Mika has grown to be one of the best players in the NHL,” general manager Chris Drury said in a statement. In addition to being a great player on the ice, Mika is an exemplary person off the ice. We are lucky that he is part of the Rangers organization and we are excited that he is agreeing to continue his career in New York. ”

A few days ago, Zibanejad also learned that he would represent Sweden at the Beijing Olympics in February 2022.
