Concession has become a dirty word, the president said
The head of state Rumen Radev met with citizens of Smolyan on the third day of his visit to the Rhodopes. They asked him to help them improve infrastructure and protect forests from fires. Among them was the MP from “There is such a people” Mika Zaykova, who was given the opportunity to ask questions directly to the president.
“Communications are extremely important in this area, and not only in terms of transport. If we want to attract investors and serious ones, we must take into account the time-saving factor,” added Rumen Radev and gave the example that the three-hour trip from Plovdiv to Rudozem is a great loss of resource for business, reported bTV.
This comment provoked the reaction of Mika Zaykova, who demanded that the problem with the concession of Plovdiv Airport be resolved.
“Mr. President, it is not bad for Plovdiv Airport to become a civil airport. You, as a pilot, should help and at least give wisdom to the next ones, because we failed, we have nothing to talk about,” Zaykova said.
According to her, the project failed due to a requested bribe.
“In recent years, ‘concession’ has become a dirty word because of low fees and the export of priceless raw materials at no cost,” Rumen Radev said, adding that not only legislative but also organizational changes and serious control mechanisms are needed.
Plovdiv Airport has all the necessary equipment, but typically in Bulgarian for many years we can not settle the concession of this airport, said the President in response to questions from mayors of Smolyan about the future of the airport.
The Minister of Transport Georgi Todorov, who was present at the meeting, explained that all prerequisites from the point of view of the infrastructure of Plovdiv Airport are present, BTA reported.
Potential should be sought in the management of the company so that Plovdiv Airport is a center and is so developed to serve many municipalities and regions, said the Minister of Transport. The aim is to create preconditions so that the future concession deal for Plovdiv Airport is profitable for both the state and the future concessionaire.
The important thing is not to steal, if there is no corruption, an investor will be found, said Mika Zaykova.
