The star noted that she believed adults, since at that time she was only 15 years old. Now she does not want to sing in Russian.
Ukrainian singer Mika Newton, who has been living and working in the United States for more than 10 years, recalled how she was forced to speak Russian. She spoke about this in the ZhVL program.
As a girl from western Ukraine who was just starting her vocal career, Newton said it was very difficult for her to speak Russian. She was “broken” and forced to speak in Russian, so in due time her completely Russian-language first music album appeared.
“Now I think how much they broke me then and the propaganda was of the Russian language. I’m from western Ukraine, I’m Ukrainian-speaking. I didn’t learn Russian at school. When I was 15 years old, I entered the circus variety. I remember when I went to study, everything was in Russian. I was the only one who spoke Ukrainian. I remember writing Russian abstracts in Ukrainian letters, “said the singer.
Newton added that she believed adults, since at that time she was only 15 years old. She analyzed and thought a lot about Ukrainian songs.
“I think how much we, I had super-pro-Ukrainian songs, well, Western Ukraine, and how beautiful they broke me. I was 15. Who do you believe? Adults, they know how best. Whereas, everyone dreamed of getting to Russia. Why “Money. Everyone wanted to do business. I, a child, did not understand this,” the star added and stressed that now it is “generally unpleasant for her to sing in Russian.”
Recall that the singer Tina Karol flew to Japan. There she was called “Ukrainian Britney Spears”.
