Mihail Mikov: Orlandovtsi is a socio-economic problem –

/ world today news/ “Orlandovtsi is a symptom, Garmen is a symptom, and the reactions of the authorities in this situation – of the responsible persons, of the ministers, are also a symptom of misunderstanding of the problem.”

This was stated at a press conference at the party’s headquarters by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the BSP, Mikhail Mikov. He explained that Orlandovtsi is a socio-economic problem. According to him, the problem of illegal construction should not be ethnicized either. He emphasized that when talking about illegal construction in a social context, it immediately changes the essence of the problem. “The government is definitely failing. This is what the facts show – these are both Garmen and Orlandovtsi”, the leader of the BSP was categorical.

Mihail Mikov emphasized that these pressures in Bulgarian society lead to one minister saying that ambulances will not enter the ghettos. According to him, such statements, as well as the ideas of medical centers for the Roma, have a decidedly fascist undertone. “If we, as a society, do not realize this, so much the worse for us,” Mikov was categorical. According to him, defining issues such as early birth rate as an ethnic problem is also indicative. “Our politicians, political scientists and other specialists must comment on social processes as well as socio-economic ones, otherwise things similar to those in Orlando will continue to happen,” commented Mikov.

In his words, very often the inter-ethnic consequences are separated from the socio-economic environment. According to him, perhaps this should have happened to show that Sofia is not the shiny showcase that is sold to foreign guests. He emphasized that the commented neighborhoods of the capital are called ghettos by all. Mikov recalled that before November 10 there was no talk of integration, but these people had jobs, were not illiterate, and there were no diseases in the ghettos. “All politicians should start talking frankly about these issues, not just talk about integration. We all see the result of these 25 years”, he commented. Mikov stressed that the actual conversation on the problem has not started, but is only being used politically on the eve of elections.

The leader of the BSP stated that he supports the idea of PES developing and imposing an index for democracy, because all the parameters – starting from the freedom of the media and reaching this type of public atmosphere – are part of what is happening in Bulgaria.
