Michael Anthony Rulli (born March 11, 1969) is an American politician, musician, and businessman currently serving as the United States Representative for Ohio’s 6th congressional district. He previously served as Ohio’s State Senator for the 33rd district from 2019 until June 12, 2024.[1][2][3]He is a member of the Republican Party.
Rulli is the Chief Operating Officer of Rulli Bros. Markets, a family-owned grocery chain located in the Mahoning Valley region.[4]
Rulli was first elected to the Ohio Senate in 2018, defeating incumbent Ohio House member and former U.S. Representative John Boccieri. Prior to that race, Rulli’s only other political experience was as a School Board member for the Leetonia Exempt Village School District in Columbiana County, Ohio.[5]Rulli was re-elected in 2022, defeating former Ohio House and Senate member Bob Hagan.
Rulli became the Republican nominee on March 19, 2024 for the 2024 special election for Ohio’s 6th congressional district, [6]and defeated Democrat Michael Kripchak on June 11 in a closer-than-expected election. On June 12, Rulli announced his resignation from the Ohio Senate. Then-state Rep. Al Cutrona was sworn into Rulli’s former Senate seat on June 26.[7]
Rulli was sworn in to the 118th United States Congress on June 25, 2024. [8]
