Migros Bank makes a fool of itself on Instagram

Behind “Swissmeme” is Zeki Bulgurcu, known as “Meme king of Switzerland” is celebrated. After the out of the Italians last week in the qualifiers for the World Cup, Zeki was active on Instagram.

“Italy is a role model and is boycotting the World Cup in Qatar,” he wrote. And underneath: “Respekt Italie!” with a photo of cheering Azzurri.

The European champion of 2021 not there this year in the desert paradise – that invited jokes and irony. Also with those responsible for social media at Migros Bank.

But somehow the people from the communication department of the money house, which had just had a new, colorful company dress tailored, didn’t really understand the laws of digital exchange of blows.

This is how they cause laughter of the unwanted kind. It came this way:

The Migros Bank Instagrammers interpreted the joke with the intentional departure of the Italians deadly seriously. “Voluntarily?” they posted last week. “You’re eliminated.”

They put a smiley on it. The reactions were not long in coming. “irony we understood”, said a cedric_soa, “great marketing, well done”, said d.donatiello, provided with an even warmer smiley.

At least then it got bizarre. Instead of keeping quiet or making fun of themselves, the Migros bankers thanked “d.donatiello”.

“Thank you, we appreciate every compliment,” they typed online. The person addressed now briefly became serious. “was irnosch, no compliment”.

What the Migros Bank people somehow wanted to be funny about. “@d.donteillo ditto,” they wrote.

But by then the train had already left. “It would be cool if you were insta-right at the pen,” said phlippkobi, and got to the point: Instagram needs to be learned.
