ROMA – Over 700 websites promoting trips to Europe from North Africa were closed by the Palermo State Police. You learn it from Blackness. This is the result of one of the activities to combat the trafficking of migrant people who, coming from the Maghreb routes, attempted to get in touch with the organizers of trips to Italy through social media and profiles.
The cost of travel and blocked sites. The Palermo police, in collaboration with the investigative sections of the central operational service (Sisco), has monitored various websites for some time, intercepting the managers of the pages that promote real travel packages for families. Expensive packages, in which the trip often cost up to 4,600 euros per person, with, in some cases, discounts for women, girls and boys. 728 pages to be exact were closed by the police. Mostly accounts in the hands of traffickers active in Libya and Egypt. Often not individual people, but real associations that use social networks to intercept those who are trying to organize the sea crossing.
The investigation started from information from migrants. Starting last November, the investigative activity cross-referenced data from investigations and information received from the migrant people themselves. Thus it became clear what the transport and payment methods are (mostly money transfert). More than a thousand social group and profile pages examined.
