Migrants, “Locked in cages”: journey into the hell of the Ponte Galeria CPR: the serious conditions of detention and the violation of fundamental rights

ROMA – On November 6, from 10 am, in Rome, at the Sala Sassoli of Palazzo Valentini, via Quattro Novembre, 119a, a round table will be held with the presentation of the dossier “Locked in cages: a journey into the hell of the Ponte Galeria CPR”edited by Italian Coalition for Civil Liberties and Rights (VOLUME).

The serious conditions of detention. The round table and the presentation of the report aim to be a moment of sharing the serious critical issues linked to the existence of Repatriation detention centers (CPR) of Ponte Galeria, following the inspection visits carried out in recent months by CILD, in which the serious conditions of detention and the violation of the fundamental rights of the detained people are documented.

The popular action to close the center of Ponte Galeria. The round table will be followed by press conference to present the popular action promoted by the academic world on the closure of Ponte Galeria, which sees Mauro Palma, former National Guarantor of the rights of people deprived of personal liberty, as the first signatory. The initiative – which involves dozens of university professors including experts in law and medicine – asks the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri for the immediate closure of the CPR.
