Many of the migrants flee the degrading conditions of the Las Raices camp they end up knocking on the doors of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Town Hall. “It is such a lousy resource that they are forced to leave, they resort to the shelter and social resources of the City Council. They prefer to be on the street and eat thanks to the resources of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council to be in Las Raíces, “explains the councilor for Social Services in the capital.
“We are noticing how around five or six migrants every day request accommodation or food in our municipality. Every day we see how new people are coming, we have around fifty people who have left Las Raíces and sought protection in the City Council, “explains González.”If we continue like this, the situation will become untenable, because we are already starting from a complicated situation“, Add.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has sent a letter to the Undersecretary of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration of the State, Raquel González, demanding an urgent solution for this situation. “For us this is totally alarming, the Ministry has to put decent resources for these people because they are forcing them to leave there,” concludes the councilor for social services.
