Border Patrol agents thwarted a peculiar attempt to people smuggling In which smugglers tried to pass their human cargo into an ice cream truck, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported on Friday.

The incident, which the federal agency described as “unique,” occurred at dusk on February 24 when agents assigned to the Laredo South Station observed a group of individuals entering various vehicles, including a Ice cream trucksaid CBP in a bulletin.

“Agents requested the assistance of the Laredo Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, and together they managed to arrest 17 individuals in relation to the truck. All the people found inside, including the driver and co-pilot, both US citizens, were arrested, ”the text says.

The CBP noted that none of the detainees had personal protection equipment, which was provided to them, and that all underwent a medical evaluation for their safety.

“This is another example of the lack of consideration of human traffickers towards those they exploit for profit, and the lack of respect for the communities in which they live, ”the agency noted.
