A group of foreigners, determined to enter national territory by force and illegally, confronted the policemen who positioned themselves in the middle of the highway to prevent a new blockade as well as to prevent them from crossing into Tacna.

Another group of strangers ran towards the pampas to circumvent the police cordon, however, they were pursued by the forces of order, reduced and led back to the “camp” set up on the side of the road.

During the brawl, the migrants threw large stones at the law enforcement officers who were located in the open area, falling on the helmets and shields that protect the troops, however, a rock fell on the lower extremities of a police officer, being injured, for which he was transferred to receive medical attention.

It all happened around 7:00 a.m. on Monday, when there were fewer troops in the area, which was taken advantage of by foreigners to try to cross into national territory.

The head of the Tacna and Moquegua Police Macro Region, PNP General Edinson Hernández Moreno, stated that 120 police officers are deployed on the border per shift to prevent the entry of foreigners through unauthorized crossings, who are resisting. “There are dark spaces, they are looking for an invisible place to cross, but when they identify them they are led back,” he said.

It should be remembered that last Saturday there was another confrontation, where the migrants also threw stones at the police, as a result of the attack a stone fell on the head of a Venezuelan citizen, who was taken to Chilean territory to receive medical attention. That day, a journalist was also injured while capturing images of the attack by the migrants.

They criticize the Foreign Ministry

Eduardo Sánchez Vildoso, president of the Benemérita Sociedad de Auxilios Mutuos de Artesanos El Porvenir de Tacna, asked the government to find a quick solution on the border between Peru and Chile.

“You have to weigh the Police by making them respect and now have their hands tied when the law assists them, they cannot be respected despite maintaining internal order”, alluding to the attacks of migrants for trying to enter Peruvian territory.

Premier Otárola reaffirms the will of the Government to guarantee the safety of Peruvians and Venezuelans in the country

The president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola Peñaranda, emphasized that the measures ordered by the Government, to address the migration problem that affects the country, are aimed at guaranteeing the safety of citizens who work honestly in Peru.

“We are not going to allow undocumented foreigners to continue entering because we must take care of the safety of Peruvians and good Venezuelans who are in the country and are the majority,” said the head of the Ministerial Cabinet in an interview with Cuarto Poder.

Along these lines, the head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) explained that the Executive has established three specific regulations: an amnesty for foreigners to regularize their immigration status without having to pay a fine; a period of six months for foreigners who entered illegally to register formally, and the declaration of emergency in the border areas.
