Migrant deputies express support for reform of the PJF

Mexico City., A group of migrant deputies from Morena expressed their support for the reform of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF) – which was already approved in San Lázaro and could begin to be discussed this Sunday in the Senate of the Republic – by stating that only through this means will it be possible to end corruption, nepotism, impunity and other vices that afflict this area.

In a “manifesto to public opinion,” federal deputies Aniceto Polanco Morales (who identified himself as “coordinator of the migrant bench” and is a resident of Los Angeles, California), Olga Leticia Chávez Rojas (Los Angeles), Maribel Solache, Nadia Sepúlveda (both from San Diego, California) and Roselia Suárez Montes de Oca (Chicago, Illinois), stated that the reform “is an unavoidable necessity” due to the various irregularities existing in the PJF.

The Judiciary, they said, “is a sclerotic branch of the state, atrophied by corruption and deviations. […] It is a body in a state of terminal decomposition that must be replaced by one that acts at the height of the need of this time of change that the nation requires to put an end to a legal framework that served as support for neoliberal governments to serve their allies, the owners of national and foreign capital.

After highlighting the role of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the transformation of institutions, the migrant deputies stressed that last Wednesday they voted “out of conviction for the reform of the Judicial Branch by a qualified majority,” with the aim of making justice accessible to all citizens.

“We must all be equal before the law. No more a judiciary that assumes justice as a commodity that is given to the powerful. No more a judiciary with nepotism, with incomes higher than those of the President, because they violate the Constitution. No more protection for those who refuse to pay taxes, for people or companies who amass fortunes by violating the law,” they stressed in their manifesto.

The signatories considered that the election of judges, ministers and magistrates by popular vote will give “legal certainty” to the PJF, while they disqualified the opposition parties that reject the reform.

“Given the imminent legislative green light for constitutional reforms, a reaction has been unleashed by the opposition who will not change our decision taken in compliance with the popular will,” they emphasized.
