Two mistakes against Standard, an unfortunate goal against KV Mechelen, five goals against Leipzig and another miss in Genk last weekend.
Simon Mignolet has never been so much discussed in Belgium as in recent weeks.
But look, on Wednesday evening the goalkeeper silenced all critics with a strong performance in the cup match against Racing Genk. Already in the first minute, Mignolet pulled out with a great reflex. And in the penalty shootout he showed his coolness again.
“Whether I’ve given people a lick of shit? That wasn’t necessary. Just myself,” Mignolet said self-critically. “I’m the one who had to look in the mirror. I also know that I haven’t been doing as well lately. Then an evening like this is very rewarding. Moreover, I have always said that you have to deal with the good things positively as with the less good.”

In the penalty shootout, Mignolet once again lived up to his reputation as a penalty taker. He stopped Hrosovsky’s eleven meter by standing in the middle. “I was well prepared and knew what they would do,” said Mignolet. “I was especially happy that I could stop the first penalty kick. That gave our penalty takers peace of mind.”
