The Maternal and Child Hospital celebrates the ‘Midwife Week’ from Monday to Friday “to value the figure of accompaniment that this specialist nurse performs in all the vital stages of women”
On the occasion of the International Day of the Midwife, which is commemorated on May 5, the center will carry out an outreach campaign, which begins by explaining to the population the work carried out by these professionals, which is not only limited to the moment of childbirth, as specified in a statement
Orientation
The midwife guides because she helps to apply family planning methods, informs about barrier methods, contraceptive implants and IUDs (inserts and removes them) and performs educational interventions on fertile days for awareness of fertility and birth control.
He also advises on the prevention and screening of different types of cancer, performing Pap smears for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer, advice on HPV and vaccine; in addition to guiding on the prevention of breast and ovarian cancer.
Accompaniment
The midwife accompanies in the care of the pregnancy, in the birth, in the upbringing and in the lactation. She also helps to create bonds such as skin-to-skin, attachment, the cutting of the umbilical cord by the father, or the imprinting of the placenta, among other issues.
Last but not least, she guides and advises during the climacteric and on the sexual-affective bond at this stage, helps to take care of the pelvic floor and carries out educational interventions for the care of adverse symptoms (hot flashes, insomnia…) providing tools to keep mind and body healthy, such as exercise or therapy.
As a finishing touch to the information campaign, on day 5 midwives from the Maternal and Child Hospital will advise and guide all women who request it at an information table that will be located in the maternity lobby of the aforementioned health center.
