Many midsize sedans are not safe enough for rear passengers. Only one of the seven models received the maximum score for safety.
Mid-size sedans failed the updated crash tests. Only the new Honda Accord received the highest safety score. About it reported on the Automotive Addicts website.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Traffic Safety (IIHS) has tested popular mid-size sedans in updated crash tests. Nearly all models failed the crash safety test.
The following models participated in the tests: Honda Accord, Subaru Outback, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5 and Volkswagen Jetta. The new Honda Accord was the only sedan to receive the highest rating for rear passenger safety.
The Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5 and Volkswagen Jetta received the lowest ratings for driver and passenger safety. The Subaru Outback, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry performed slightly better.
IIHS President David Harkey noted that most vehicles have the same problem. It consists in the fact that in a frontal collision, the seat belts of the rear passengers move from the pelvis to the stomach, which increases the risk of injury.

The IIHS said automakers should pay more attention to the safety of their new models. Updated crash tests have proven that not all cars are ready for them.
Previously Focus showed how the Volvo XC90 crossover passed the most extreme crash tests before entering the market.
