In special capsules, reminiscent of the beginning of the COVID pandemic, were transported from Kefalonia to Athens last night The 29-year-old man, who showed symptoms of smallpox, like his companion.
On Saturday night, the Greek Air Force’s C-130 landed at Kefalonia airport to pick up a pair of tourists who had been diagnosed with smallpox-like symptoms.
The medical staff was in special uniforms and received the two patients, who were placed in sterile EpiShuttle transport isolation capsules, which also protect the medical staff during the transport of the patient.
The patient with symptoms of smallpox is of Romanian nationality and has recently lived in London. He arrived from London with his girlfriend on vacation.
The couple was taken to Atikon Hospital, Trud reports. There, they were received by Mr Tsiodras’ staff as the professor led a team of scientists to deal with the first case of the disease, which appeared in Greece among tourists in Kefalonia.
