MIDIRAMA: An increasingly turbulent political atmosphere

As the presidential election approaches, the political world is in turmoil. Power and opposition are taking their marks and are actively preparing for an electoral battle which will certainly be intense. The Tiako Madagascar party is already in working order behind its natural candidate, Marc Ravalomanana. Its national congress last weekend showed that all its cogs are well oiled and that all its executives and all its activists are ready to deploy on the ground when the electoral campaign is officially launched. President Andry Rajoelina’s team is, albeit discreetly, also in action. She is in the process of clearing the ground in front of the one who will certainly be a candidate. She does everything to solve once and for all the problem of load shedding which has considerably lowered the popularity rating of the Head of State. The theme of decentralization that all the opponents have put forward on several occasions is now taken into account by the authorities, whereas it has totally ignored it for the past four years. Deputy Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, who is also a potential candidate, has a great deal of irony about this sudden concern of the Executive, which reminds us that Velirano No. 12 had made it his objective. The ordinary session of the National Assembly ended with a taste of incomplete after the unexplained cancellation of the face-to-face meeting between the deputies and the government. Observers had the impression that everything had been done to make it so, the hesitation of the elected representatives of the majority seeming prepared in advance. In the hemicycle, there is also talk of the possible holding of an extraordinary session with the revision of the nationality code on the program. The president of the lower house, Christine Razanamahasoa, revealed that about fifteen deputies had filed a request to this effect. The population observes all these political maneuvers with circumspection. She is mainly concerned about her well-being, but still follows the evolution of the situation attentively.

Less than a fortnight after Yevgueni Prigogine’s stunt had shaken Vladimir Putin’s power, the prevailing impression is that it was finally a stab in the back and that the master of the Kremlin emerged strengthened from this pseudo putsch organized by the boss of Wagner. The latter has completely disappeared from the scene since the Russian president took control of the situation. The agreement, which seemed to have been concluded, expected that he would not be sentenced and that he would be welcomed in Belarus without being worried. Apparently, members of his militia are likely to be conscripted into the Russian army. Its entire communication apparatus is now under the control of official power. The FSB, the intelligence service, has control over the leadership of the Wagner militia. All posters concerning her have been removed throughout the territory of the Russian Federation. Today, President Vladimir Putin is firmly entrenched in power. In France, after the nights of riots which occurred after the death of young Naël in Nanterre, calm has returned. The report has been published: thousands of arrests have taken place. The feeling that emerges among the majority of the French is the desire to respect the republican order. The recovery, by the parents of their children who participated in acts of vandalism and looting, is now recommended. Sanctions will be applied if this does not take place and this will go as far as the abolition of family allowances.

The main leaders of the Malagasy political world are now ready to take up the challenge of the elections. Despite the CENI not being able to fully complete the election budget, potential candidates are now in the starting blocks. The Head of State and his team are, in any case, working hard to be able to present achievements to the population during the next presidential campaign. The following weeks will be particularly turbulent.
