The stars Khris Middleton and the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo signed a Sunday party in the NBA to guide the champions Milwaukee Bucks in a victory over the New York Knicks with a score of 112-97.
Middleton scored 24 points and Antetokounmpo scored his first triple-double of the season to lead the Bucks to victory.
As one of seven Bucks with double-digit scoring, Antetokounmpo finished with 20 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
Bobby Portis Jr. added 19 points, Rodney Hood had 14, Jrue Holliday had 13, Grayson Allen had 12 and Pat Connaughton had 10.
Milwaukee (18-10) was never behind, winning its second straight game and the 10th of the last 12 meetings.
“We talk a lot about being selfless and making the right play, having guys with high IQs who are willing to make the right pass,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “It was a good team effort.”
For its part, New York (12-15) has lost three in a row and seven of the last 10.
In his first NBA start, Quentin Grimes scored 27 for the Knicks and set a team record for the most 3s scored in a game by a rookie with seven.
Grimes’ 27 points were the most points for a Knicks rookie in a game since 1996-97.
Derrick Rose and Kevin Knox each scored 18 points, and Immanuel Quickley finished with 11 for the New York team.
Milwaukee came out firing at full steam and took the first quarter 26-16.
The lead stretched to 54-33 with four minutes remaining in the second period and they finally went into the intermission with a 61-48 lead.
“Turnovers in the first half really hurt us,” said New York coach Tom Thibodeau, whose team committed nine losses in the first two quarters, giving Milwaukee 20 points.
