Hamas official Osama Hamdan said today that no progress has been made in ceasefire talks in Gaza, despite the Palestinian organization showing flexibility.
Hamdan said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was raising obstacles preventing both sides from reaching an agreement and that he was “not interested” in freeing the Israeli hostages.
“The occupation government is still on the run and the negotiations are stuck in a vicious circle,” Hamdan said during a press conference held in Beirut.
Efforts by Egypt and Qatar, with the support of the US, have so far not led to a truce.
While Hamas is seeking a cease-fire deal to ensure an end to Israeli military operations, Israel prefers a deal to release hostages in exchange for the release of prisoners and refuses to commit to ending its military campaign.
In Gaza, Israeli shelling continues to target areas along the Palestinian enclave, killing 62 people in the past 24 hours, the enclave’s health ministry said.
More than 33,037 Palestinians have been killed and 75,668 injured in Israeli military operations in Gaza since October 7, the Gaza Health Ministry announced today.
