The developments in the Middle East are stormy, which intensifies the fears of a generalized conflict in the region. Iran issued a NOTAM for the center, west and northwest of the country, advising aircraft to change their routes.
Of course, this development is seen as a harbinger of an attack by Iran on Israel. In fact, most believe that this will happen within the next few hours, although no one knows when.
“We don’t want escalation, but Israel must be punished”
Iran does not seek to escalate regional tensions, but believes it needs to punish Israel to prevent further destabilization, a foreign ministry spokesman said today, following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya last week in Tehran.
“Iran seeks to establish stability in the region, but this will only come by punishing the aggressor and creating a deterrent against the adventurism of the Zionist regime (Israel),” Nasser Kanaani said, adding that Tehran’s action is unavoidable.
Kanaani called on the United States to stop supporting Israel, saying the international community had failed in its duty to preserve stability in the region and should support “punishment of the aggressor.”
The top commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, today reiterated the elite corps’ threat that Israel’s “punishment” will come “in due time.”
Tehran and groups allied to Iran, such as Hamas and Hezbollah, have accused Israel of killing Haniya on July 31. Israeli officials have not claimed responsibility.
Two dead in Lebanon from an Israeli attack
Lebanon’s health ministry said two people were killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon today, hours after pro-Iranian Hezbollah shelled northern Israel.
The exchange of fire came as fears of a regional conflagration intensify, with Iran and its allies vowing to respond to the killings of the Hamas leader and Hezbollah’s military commander blamed on Israel.
In a statement, the health ministry said “two people were killed in an enemy strike” in Mays al-Jabal, a village on the border with Israel. The National News Agency (ANI) reported that one of the dead was a “savior of the Al-Risala Association” linked to the Hezbollah-allied Amal movement.
Rescuer of this organization, Ali Abbas, said that his colleague went on a motorcycle to the area with another person to treat possible victims, when the second strike occurred.
Mais al-Jabal, less than two kilometers from the border with Israel, has been heavily bombed since the start of the war almost ten months ago and has been abandoned by its residents.
