gaza Conflict: Death Toll Soars as Israeli Attacks Intensify
Teh humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepened significantly on Friday, as Israeli forces launched a series of intense attacks, resulting in a tragic loss of life.According to Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing medical sources, at least 42 Palestinians were killed in Friday’s attacks alone, following another 100 fatalities in the preceding 24 hours.
The relentless assault targeted several key areas within the besieged enclave. In northern Gaza, already under siege for nearly 90 days, Israeli forces destroyed the oxygen and electricity stations of the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, leaving medical supplies critically depleted. this hospital is now the only functioning medical facility in the region, following the closure of the Kamal Adwan Hospital last weekend after an Israeli raid that resulted in the detention of 240 individuals, including its director, Hossam abu Safiya.
Further attacks included airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza and areas of western Gaza City, where at least three civilians perished. In the Nuseirat refugee camp, a house was struck, killing five people, including two children. Israeli naval vessels also bombarded the coast near Nuseirat, while artillery fire targeted the Al Bureij refugee camp.
The cumulative death toll since the beginning of the conflict now stands at a staggering 45,658, with a heartbreaking 70% of the victims being women and children. The number of wounded has reached 108,583, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. This grim statistic reflects the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict, which has now lasted over a year.
