Mid-January all over 60s had a booster shot

All Dutch people over the age of sixty who want a booster shot have received it in mid-January. That is what GGD GHOR chairman André Rouvoet said this morning in Sven on 1. Only people who have recently had corona will have to wait a little longer. As far as he is concerned, there is no need to find a culprit for the late start of the booster campaign. “I don’t need finger pointing.”

On September 14, he was completely ready. Then Andre Rouvoet stated on Radio 1 to Sven Kockelmann that the GGD was ready for the start of the booster campaign. But today, the Netherlands dangles at the bottom of the European ranking for the third jab. “In September, the Health Council only advised people with an immune problem to be given a booster,” explains Rouvoet. “We were advised to prepare a possible large-scale campaign, so it was planned for January.”

However, on 2 November, the Health Council recommended that all people over 60 should be given a third shot. “Then we brought the campaign forward. We are an implementing organization, so I am not about the planning of the cabinet or the Health Council,” said the GGD foreman. He admits that more people would have been pricked if the Health Council had issued that advice earlier, but does have a comment. “If the most recent vaccination is less than six months ago, we cannot administer a booster shot.”

Two thirds for 2022

Corona minister Hugo de Jonge has indicated that he wants to test as many people over sixty as possible before the turn of the year. Not everyone will be able to be boosted before that time, Rouvoet is already sure. “For some of the over-sixties, the second shot will not be more than six months ago by then.” He expects to have boosted two-thirds before 2022.
