Mid-August has been drier and warmer than usual – Weather

In the second decade of August, the amount of precipitation in Latvia was only seven percent of the norm, according to the data compiled by the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology.

Only eight observation stations had one day with at least a millimeter of precipitation, on August 19 in Rucava rainfall brought 17.7 millimeters of precipitation. No rain was observed at almost half of the weather stations.

The average relative humidity was 73% – from 66% in Riga to 80% in Ainaži.

The average air temperature in Latvia for the decade reached +17.5 degrees, which is 0.9 degrees above normal. The highest air temperature was +30.3 degrees on August 16 in Dobele, but the minimum temperature was +4.7 degrees on August 18 in Madona.

The wind in the middle of August was slower than usual, its speed in gusts did not exceed 12 meters per second.

The first decade of the month was also 0.9 degrees warmer than normal, but precipitation at the beginning of August reached half the average of many years.
