I believe they can think of such things. But Microsoft has one goal, to make money. So the non-disabled option will continue. By the time fines come around, they will have raised more money.
The choice should never, ever be there. It can’t be “opted out” or “opted in/opted out”, but definitely not. The addition means only one thing, for Microsoft you represent nothing more than a credit card / walking wallet. Which they could raid at a time that suits them.
Microsoft has run a better PR campaign in the last 10 years than they did under Gates/Ballmer. And that’s the only difference, in all other areas they are still just as sneaky and hungry for your money as they were when Microsoft started.
Now that in itself isn’t so bad, after all, that’s what a company is for. But be honest about it, or at least don’t make it look much better than it is. In that respect you can say what you want about Oracle and IBM, they hardly hide behind sweet talk. You know what they do, you know what they can do and you know you can dig deep into your pocket for it.
What was the idea behind Windows 11 again when it was first presented? It was supposed to be “home” for you. Well, I don’t know what the situation is in your house, but in my house there isn’t an advertising column that I don’t control. In my case, there is not even one television in the house anymore.
Now I want a phone too small to be an advertising column. So I’m just shouting: advertising tile. And I carry this with me in my pocket in a cover. Use the thing mostly for 2FA and play a word game before visiting the toilet any longer. I don’t care about Instrgram, I don’t have TikTok, Face Book, I don’t do anything with that either. I use WhatsApp regularly, which means sending a message about a birthday or something 2 or 3 times a week.
In the beginning I was very interested in social media, the thinking behind the first reviews was good. But that quickly turned into “making money for every pop and sketch every user sends to the internet through our network”, which I got bored quickly. And for me it was an easy choice not to do anything with it at all. All the latest players, such as Tik Tok and Instagram, immediately had the mindset of “make money off the backs of users”, so no thanks.
Why am I explaining all this? To show that a phone could be an advertisement for you that you carry with you all the time. To me it is little more than an advertising stamp. I sometimes want to turn off the ad blocker on my computers for some sites, so I’m not completely ad free.
So “home” in my case means: free from commercial. Microsoft is now thinking very differently about this with its Windows product. And those with the idea of ”disable” or “opt-in/opt-out” only justify the bad behavior of Microsoft.
