Microsoft’s New Cross-Platform Gaming Strategy and Xbox Announcements Unveiled

Although there are only a few hours left until the official unveiling of Microsoft’s new strategy for publishing its own games – a special podcast will take place at 9 pm our time – during the night on Thursday, through the magazine Inverse (over Insider Gaming) have made public the alleged details of an earlier meeting that we reported to you about this past weekend. The main news should have been the assurance from Phil Spencer that Microsoft, despite the growing speculation, does not intend to end the development of the Xbox, which was later slightly disturbed by other speculations that the Surface division would be in charge of the next gaming hardware. According to the aforementioned magazine, this was not the only message that the management of Microsoft’s gaming division sent to employees, it was said to be more general about trying to get games on even more gaming devices and becoming a real cross-platform gaming company.

“Every display is an Xbox,” gaming division president Sarah Bond is said to have said, according to multiple sources speaking on condition of anonymity. At this point, however, she should have also talked about a strategy that includes the inclusion of a larger number of publishing devices in an effort to be that cross-platform company. On the other hand, this is not such a shocking proclamation, if we do not immediately and automatically follow the cancellation of exclusivity in favor of the possibility of publishing our own games also on PlayStation. Microsoft has previously mentioned that it wants to reach as many devices as possible and that it does not want to throw sticks under the feet of players in case they want to decide for themselves how to use Microsoft games along with the entire Xbox ecosystem. But what remains unanswered are the possible changes that Microsoft could have made in order to expand the target platforms even more.

It is also interesting that, according to Inverse magazine, Microsoft management used the game Palworld to demonstrate its cross-platform idea. It was supposed to show it on tablets, TVs, monitors and handhelds, although we don’t know the details. However, Microsoft employees, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that when Palworld appeared on the handheld, some joked that Microsoft might be preparing its own, adding to the ongoing speculation that its own portable Xbox is also being talked about. But it could be in the final jen a device similar to a number of other gaming handhelds that began to appear in abundance after the launch of the Steam Deck. After all, it was ROG Ally that Xbox became an official partner and offered handheld owners a few months of Game Pass membership for free. So we’ll see what Microsoft comes up with tonight, the field of potential possibilities for what we’ll hear and see is starting to expand quite a bit.
