Microsoft’s modified Recall AI feature resumes beta testing in October

Windows Recall

due to security concernsThe Windows Recall function that has been temporarily “frozen”.after change, there are finally signs of resurrection – – Microsoft announcedA recall will be rolled out to Windows Insider testers using Copilot+ PCs in October.

The Windows Recall feature automatically takes a screenshot and saves a snapshot of everything you do on your computer, allowing you to find and review information later such as results, posts -d, files, or chat history displayed on the screen. While the benefits of this feature are obvious (especially for forgetful people), it can also be a privacy nightmare. The screenshots saved during the early launch of Recall were not encrypted in any way, so if the computer is hacked, not only will the other party see all your transfer, but also important key information such as passwords or bank accounts. Why Microsoft would make such a fundamental mistake is a mystery.

Fortunately, although Recall was still in testing, security experts issued a warning, asking Microsoft to stop it before its official launch, and promised not to launch it until to improve security. These security updates currently include setting the feature to opt-in when setting up Copilot + PC, rather than being enabled by default; Otherwise no screenshot or information can be found inside. This means that if there is a hacker, your screenshots and timeline should be encrypted unless you can unlock it with your face or fingerprint.

Microsoft said that when Recall becomes available again through Windows 11 Insiders in October, it will publish a new blog post detailing each security change. The Recall function requires a “CoPilot + PC” with a compatible processor (sufficiently powerful NPU). This currently includes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite, while they are available Intel and AMD Processors that meet the CoPilot+ PC requirements will also be launched.
