With Activision Blizzard King’s entry into Microsoft’s gaming venture, capacity has more than doubled. A big brand like Call of Duty has its own demands, and smartphone games are suddenly something they really succeed at.
As a result, Phil Spencer has now presented some pretty big upheavals for Microsoft’s gaming business. Spencer remains at the helm as CEO of Microsoft gaming, and has promoted Sarah Bond to the new head of Xbox (both software and hardware). As for Bond, Spencer writes in a meo The Verge have obtained:
“To manage today’s platform and build tomorrow’s platform, we are bringing together the teams that will make this possible. Sarah Bond will lead this team as president of Xbox – bringing together devices, players, creator experiences, platform development, strategy, business planning, data and analytics and business development.”
Another big change is that Bethesda will be brought closer to Xbox, so they can collaborate more and share resources. A fair guess is that Spencer doesn’t want another Redfall situation, and Matt Booty is promoted to President of Game Content and Studios to oversee both ZeniMax (where Jamie Leder remains in charge) and Xbox.
This is how the management of Microsoft’s games business will look like from now on (Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick will leave on January 1, 2024):
This is how Sarah Bond responded to her new role as head of Xbox at X, receiving plenty of responses and congratulations from industry veterans such as Tim Sweeney (Epic head), Shawn Layden (former PlayStation head) and Shuhei Yoshida (PlayStation veteran). What do you think of Sarah Bond as the new Xbox boss?
Say hello to the new Xbox boss.
