Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s chief marketing officer, shared the exciting news in a recent post on the official Microsoft blog. Mehdi highlighted the incredible progress made by Copilot over the past year and unveiled the new features that users can expect.

Since its launch, Copilot has become immensely popular, with over 5 billion chats and 5 billion images created to date. Building upon this success, Microsoft is introducing further capabilities to enhance the Copilot experience. The web, Android, and iOS versions of Copilot now boast an improved AI model called Deucalion. Additionally, users will notice a more streamlined look and feel, with cleaner style answers and a carousel of suggested prompts to assist Copilot in generating accurate responses.

One of the most exciting updates is the new editing capabilities in Designer, a tool within Copilot that utilizes generative AI models like OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 to transform prompts into images. Users in English-speaking countries such as the U.S., U.K., Australia, India, and New Zealand can now edit images directly within the chat interface. This means they can colorize objects, blur image backgrounds, or even change the style of the image to pixel art. Subscribers to Copilot Pro, Microsoft’s premium plan priced at $20 per month, will also have the ability to resize and regenerate images between portrait and landscape orientations.

Looking ahead, Microsoft has exciting plans for Copilot with the upcoming release of Designer GPT. This new feature will provide users with an immersive and dedicated canvas within Copilot to visualize their ideas. In response, Microsoft made it impossible to generate celebrity images using Designer. Nevertheless, the battle against bad actors in the realm of AI tools remains ongoing.

Mehdi emphasized that Microsoft’s advancements in AI align with their mission to empower every person and organization to achieve more. By democratizing breakthroughs in AI through Copilot, Microsoft aims to make the promise of AI a reality for everyone.

While Mehdi addressed the exciting upgrades to Copilot, he did not mention the performance issues reported by Copilot Pro users. Early subscribers have complained about long generation times and other potential bugs. Speculation from Windows Central suggests that the problem may stem from insufficient server capacity. However, without an official comment from Microsoft, it is difficult to determine the exact cause of these issues.
