For a staggering 68.7 billion dollars, Microsoft has bought the right to take over the gaming company Activision Blizzard. The permission has been granted after the British competition authorities (CMA) have concluded that the acquisition can be carried out.
The approval comes after Microsoft recently adjusted the agreement to transfer the cloud gaming rights for existing and new Activision Blizzard games to Ubisoft. With the approval from the British regulatory authority, it now appears that the acquisition may become a reality.
The CMA has decided to authorize Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft) to acquire Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Activision), with the exception of Activision’s cloud streaming rights outside the EEA, provided that the sale of Activision’s cloud streaming rights is completed before the merger is carried out”, writes the CMA in a statement.
Microsoft Deputy CEO Brad Smith welcomes the CMA’s decision.

“We have now cleared the final regulatory hurdle to complete this acquisition, which we believe will benefit both players and the global gaming industry,” said Smith in a message on X (formerly Twitter).
