Microsoft will open its new data center in Algete and finance five social projects in the municipality

The American multinational Microsoft will open its new data center in Algete, within the framework of Region Cloud Spain, and has announced that it will use its Community Fund in the Community of Madrid to finance five social projects in the municipality.

This was highlighted by the City Council in a statement, in which it detailed that the landing of Microsoft will help boost the digital skills of schoolchildren, to improve the employability of unemployed young people.

The City Council has highlighted “the commitment” of the multinational to NGOs, by offering the possibility of financing five projects aimed at areas of training, sustainability and social empowerment.

Specifically, Barrio Vivo is one of those that has benefited from this initiative with ‘Singing and counting on older people’, a project to encourage the participation of 2,500 older people in cultural activities in the municipality, and ‘Stop Digital Gap’, to increase the autonomy of older people with technological devices.

On the other hand, Factoría F5 has also had the opportunity to develop ‘AI for the unemployed’ Courses, a training program in generative AI for unemployed people without professional training in the field of IT to facilitate their insertion into the world of work.

In addition, FDI Foundation has proposed ‘Algete Verde: promoting biodiversity’, for the restoration of the Las Huelgas area, which represents the continuity of the project carried out last year, with two days of tree planting in January and February 2025, followed by continued maintenance work.

Finally, Mama Tierra Educativa has proposed ‘Road Education Activities’, to promote road safety. Microsoft will finance the acquisition of bicycles for children who do not have them, as well as the organization of theoretical training sessions throughout the school year and bicycle excursions for students starting in the spring.

PROMOTING DIGITAL SKILLS AND EMPLOYABILITY

On the other hand, Microsoft will promote the ‘Awakening STEM vocations through Minecraft’ project in Algete, aimed at promoting digital skills and awakening STEM vocations among 5th and 6th grade Primary students in the municipality’s public schools.

To date, the Padre Jerónimo, Valderrey, Jonathan Galea, Virgen de Valderrabé and Obispo Moscoso schools have joined this initiative.

In relation to employability, the American multinational will launch the ‘AI Bootcamp’ project, aimed at unemployed young people in the municipality with specialized training and certification in Artificial Intelligence, Azure and Data Science. It is complemented by a mentoring plan and Speed ​​Dating to materialize employment opportunities.

“The municipal government has been working hand in hand with Microsoft for months to help it in these projects that it implements for the benefit of residents,” stressed the mayor, Fernando Romo, about the different Microsoft initiatives.
