Microsoft will disconnect legacy Outlook clients from 365 services on 1 November

For those who haven’t yet done away with old Outlook clients, Microsoft recommended switching to the Office 365 or Microsoft 365 subscription model, which provides always-up-to-date client software.

Microsoft reminded its business customers who use older versions of Outlook that they have only two months to update before your access to the company’s Microsoft 365 and Office 365 services is interrupted.” After November 1, 2021, only Outlook 2013 Service Pack 1 (with the latest fixes) and later will be able to connect to Microsoft 365 services, said the company in its blog.

Last year, Microsoft stopped supporting older versions of Office that connected to its services online, such as Exchange Online, as of October 13, 2020. Affected editions of Office included Office 2007, which had already been discontinued. Office 2010, which would no longer receive support on the same date, October 13; and Office 2013, which should receive support until April 2023. The end of support in services had been fermenting since 2017.

At the time, Microsoft was surprisingly sympathetic, saying that while support was officially ended, it didn’t necessarily mean the end of connectivity. “We will not take any active steps to block other versions of the Office client, such as Office 2013, from connecting to Office 365 services, but these older clients may encounter performance or reliability issues over time,” said the then-one company spokesperson.

This is what changes now. The November 1 deadline actually disconnects older Outlook clients from Microsoft services . Microsoft explained that older Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 clients will be incompatible with two upcoming service changes, including the end of support for Basic authentication (in essence, the default long default username and password combination), which was postponed in February 2021 however, the Microsoft has not said when it will no longer support basic authentication .

For those of you who haven’t done away with old Outlook clients, Microsoft recommended that they switch to the Office 365 or Microsoft 365 subscription model, which provides always up-to-date client software.
