Microsoft will bury Windows 8.1. In two years

Windows 8 was released in 2012 and was officially discontinued in early 2016. However, this only applied to people who did not want to upgrade to a free upgrade to Windows 8.1, which was essentially the same system, with only smaller or larger improvements.

In recent years, however, Microsoft has, quite understandably, begun to postpone the eights – he has paid all the attention to the newer Windows 10 system.

For example, in 2016, the sale of OEM licenses for Windows 8 was terminated. In other words, manufacturers could no longer install eights on new machines, and in the case of Windows, they only had to automatically offer people dozens.

Another nail in the coffin of Windows 8.1 was hammered in 2018, when the main support from Microsoft was terminated. Since then, extended support has come into force, which in fact only includes extended support. In practice, this means that more or less only security updates are already released.

Windows 8.1 is used by tens of thousands of people

But even that is to change after January 10, 2023. The updates for Windows 8.1 will be released for the last time on that day. For security reasons, people should switch to a newer version of Windows, or install another platform. There are several operating systems on the market that are also offered for free.

Otherwise, people run the risk that their system will not be sufficiently secure against hackers. In many cases, even the best antivirus program is not the salvation of an unpatched system.

According to Statcounter, almost 8.1% of the world’s people use Windows 8.1. In other words, tens of thousands of people still have this platform installed on their machines.
