Windows is by definition as leaky as a basket,
the same goes for android and ios.

Rather, the problem is that for decades it has been accepted that software is sold on an as-is basis with the promise that the leaks will be closed.

The strange thing is and remains that we accept it.

A piece of software that you pay almost nothing for, sometimes even “free”, should keep citizens safe, keep companies going, etc, etc.

If you really valued certain software, it would never exist that some companies have such power but that actually offer junk that you have nothing to say about other than passing on your data.

And the illusion that you can “never” make software completely secure,
less is more.
Both Android (chrome) and windows have become data machines that you can scrape a lot from without compromising on functionality. Once that clutter is gone, you can focus more on your legacy code without taking these drastic measures;

This makes it impossible to print.

Russia has long recognized that Microsoft has some snags they can’t trust,
China has built its own firewall that they know what info is going in and out of the country,
India is steering its own apps on its own equipment and is becoming increasingly strict on data transfers,

EU is literally in the middle of it. There is nothing here and far too few serious alternatives are being developed.
