Your definition of purpose is in fact the function of the application, not wanting to evolve as stated in the sense of anything more than a program. And by new stuff, I mean something that’s outside the scope of the model. You say that learning a new programming language is within the scope of the model. He will never learn to drive a car by himself.
And will that new programming language also look for that information itself or will it be extracted from the available data and provided?
And as you say, new releases need to be trained.
The term AI is just bad because it has different meanings. If this is artificial intelligence, then what is software that becomes aware? This is machine learning.
I would call something an AI if it searches for information on its own and continuously develops new features to solve problems. And this outside a predefined scope. A language model with a fancy command prompt trying to sound human is not intelligence. It’s very, incredibly complex and impressive, but if we leave out the word AI and human touch from the hints, I don’t expect many people to see Skynet anymore.
Just as a hoverboard can apparently have two wheels, an AI doesn’t need to have its own intelligence. It just needs to be able to do well if or.
I thought Mass Effect had the best description, virtual intelligence.
And no, 5 and even 10 years ago I would have given you the same answer.
