Microsoft wants to boost your videoconferences with virtual environments

For many workers, deconfinement is still far from the end of telework… and team meetings by videoconference. It is for this reason that Microsoft will soon add to its Teams platform a functionality to boost and make more natural video calls using virtual environments.

Baptized Together Mode (together mode), this new feature uses artificial intelligence to cut out and place each participant in a common virtual environment, such as an amphitheater, a café or a meeting room.

Because all the people present at the meetings see the same image on their respective screens, Together Mode would help people to better capture the non-verbal cues of others and would create a group dynamic that is closer to that of face-to-face meetings, after Microsoft.

For example, if the person interrupting the chat is in the upper right corner of the people’s screen, everyone will be looking in the same direction at the same time. This is much more natural group behavior than that observed in a videoconference in “grid” mode.

This new mode should be offered in August.
