Microsoft unveils Xbox Series X refrigerators for thirsty gamers

Last year, one of the many great hardware snacks was about the next generation of game consoles from Microsoft and Sony. Under the shell, the products are similar, but on the outside it is about night and day. While Sony is investing in futuristic curved surfaces in white and high-gloss black, Microsoft is putting the finishing touches on more careful geometries. Keeping back with design extravagances has, however, led the Xbox audience’s thoughts towards kitchens and appliances, where the flagship console Xbox Series X has been likened to a refrigerator.

The console has admittedly been praised for good cooling performance, but now announces Microsoft that they lower temperatures significantly when an Xbox Series X refrigerator becomes a reality. It is about a so-called mini-fridge, with room for up to ten cans of any beverage, or other refrigerated items that occupy a similar volume. In the refrigerator door there are two shelves for snacks.

Judging from the picture, the small refrigerator retains a green-black flair with a top equipped with perforation, which is recognizable from the console model. The picture also suggests that the inside may be equipped with a green light, to make it easier to find the right drink during long game nights. Information about dimensions, power outlets and the like, however, shines with its absence. According to Microsoft’s blog post, the refrigerator comes with a DC adapter, which supplies both the cooling element and the USB connection in the front with power.

Finally, Microsoft mentions that it is a “Thermoelectric cooler”. This means that the refrigerator is a simpler product, where the compressor cycle of the traditional refrigerators is replaced by Peltier elements. The price tag is 100 euros, equivalent to 1,000 kronor, and availability is promised in several European countries in December 2021. Sweden is not on the list at the time of writing, but Microsoft promises that the rollout will continue in 2022. From 19 October, the product can pre-purchased in the countries where it becomes available.

Are there any iconic products you would like to see in white goods?
