Last week, we were entitled to a first presentation of the Surface Duo, the future foldable smartphone from Microsoft. Today, the 35-minute introductory video was released for the general public; the opportunity to come and gauge the beast, as much for the skeptics as for the fanatics.
Usually, Microsoft hosts one or more physical events dedicated to its Microsoft Surface devices. Pandemic requires, the Redmond firm had to be content with a briefing of about thirty minutes which was communicated to the specialized American press at the beginning of the week. The company has just made it available to the general public: everyone can now follow this dive into the heart of the folding smartphone. Panos Panay, the Microsoft Product Manager, explains every aspect of their new device, from the behind-the-scenes design to the specs and features.
For those who haven’t yet had the chance to lay eyes on this funny contraption, this is probably the best introduction available. During nearly 36 minutes of video, you will be able to familiarize yourself with the rather particular design of the machine. It is also the opportunity to get to know its overlay ofAndroid, tailor-made to get the best out of these two screens. Small detail: we notice that from certain viewing angles, some curved reflections appear on the screen, especially at the bottom, as if the screen were curved. There’s nothing really to worry about since it could be a prototype or too thick a protective film, but it’s a detail that doesn’t really inspire confidence. We also discover some nice features, such as real-time synchronization with the Windows application Your phone.
Will this very elaborate presentation be enough to convince potential future buyers? Not sure that the most recalcitrant will change their mind, but it’s always refreshing to see a unique device working.
