Microsoft will replace Cortana in Windows later this year.
At its Build conference in May, Microsoft unveiled its latest Windows Copilot tool, located on the taskbar, that, once widely available, will help you with tasks such as annotating content, editing text, and querying your PC’s settings. , among other things.
“We’re making some changes to Windows that will affect Cortana users,” Microsoft said in a blog post. “Starting in late 2023, we will no longer support Cortana on Windows as a standalone app in devices, preview Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Teams Rooms.
The company added: “We know this change may affect some of the ways you work in Windows, so we want to help you transition smoothly to the new options. Instead of clicking the Cortana icon and launching the app to start using the voice, you can use the voice and meet your productivity needs with different tools. “
Microsoft first introduced Cortana in 2015 as part of Windows 10. Using voice commands, users can set reminders, open apps, and ask questions.
Microsoft has slowly removed Cortana from the Windows experience, with the release of Windows 11, the digital assistant has lost its location in the taskbar and is also no longer part of the first boot experience.
Microsoft ended Cortana in 2020 on iOS and Android and ended support for Cortana on other devices like Surface Headphones.
While Cortana is no longer available on Windows, it will still be available in Outlook mobile, Microsoft Teams mobile, Teams Canvas, and Teams Rooms.
Microsoft hasn’t given the exact date for Cortana’s removal from Windows, but it prioritizes its AI suite of tools like Bing chatbot and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
