Microsoft to hold additional Xbox developer talks event on June 17 – Gaming – News

It is of course very nice stuff that they show, but as far as I’m concerned the console wars are going completely the wrong way. An earlier quote from Phil Spencer was:

“I find it completely counter to what gaming is about to say that part of that is to lock people away from being able to experience those games. Or to force someone to buy my specific device on the day that I want them to go buy it, in order to partake in what gaming is about. Gaming is bigger than any one device”

And now they do a 180 and lock everything up behind game pass; Xbox & PC only.

As far as I’m concerned, Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves that they have incorporated a Bethesda – which was not affiliated with 1 platform – to make future games exclusive to their own ecosystem. This gives me just as bad a taste as the timed exclusive from Rise of the Tombraider. Playstation gamers could wait a year for this.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Bethesda games have some sort of end date and these games still come to the Playstation. I can’t imagine that there won’t be a wave of indignation if TeS6 (following Starfield) is also announced only for XBox & PC.

I can imagine exclusivity arising from hardware limitations, but the Xbox and Playstation are not that different anymore. The gamer himself is the loser here; exclusivity does not serve any functional purpose in this way, does it?
