Microsoft has announced that it will discontinue WordPad with a future Windows update, as it is no longer in active development.
WordPad is a basic text editing application that allows users to create and edit documents using rich text, and include images and links to other files.
And the company had started installing the program with Windows systems automatically since 1995 with the system (Windows 95), to provide users with a basic word processor and a built-in document editor in the operating system.
The company is now proposing the paid-for Word app as an alternative to WordPad and NotePad users for those who don’t need rich-text support.
Microsoft revealed that WordPad is no longer updated and will be removed in a future version of Windows. However, the company did not specify the exact timing of this change.
“We recommend Microsoft Word for rich text documents, such as .doc and .rtf, and NotePad for plain text documents, such as .txt,” the company said.
