Microsoft Surface Pro 9 main station is practical – can Intel and Arm work together?

appeared earlier Surface Pro 9 It seems both expected and unexpected. What you can guess is that Microsoft will bring a new machine equipped with Intel 12th generation processors. What I did not anticipate is that it will be used after two years. SQ A series of custom Arm chip models reappeared. Can such a combination have the effect of 1 plus 1 greater than 2? Or will it just cause more shopping confusion for consumers? Colleagues from the central station rang the real car after the event was announced – they wanted to find the answer, but raised more questions.

Except for the additional 5G antenna of the Arm version, the look and texture of the two versions are basically the same. According to the Microsoft representative, the performance of the two can also be matched. However, the Geekbench 5 score of the on-site Arm version prototype is only 978 / 4,760, which is far worse than the general use of Intel 11th or 12th generation chips. I hope the final firmware is different. At the same time, the official also said that the new machine’s compatibility with x86 apps has been improved, and the gap between the native Windows software experience on the two versions has further narrowed.

If this is indeed the case, of course, it can only be judged after actual use. However, at the moment it is certain that, thanks to the NPU that comes with the SQ3 processor, the Arm version can do some things that the Intel version cannot do, such as instant blur video background and so on. Microsoft says that with their own neural network unit, it’s not impossible for Intel models to achieve this, but at least that assumption doesn’t exist for now.

On the spot, Microsoft reps also admitted that the two-version approach could actually mislead some consumers, who will likely walk into the store and buy two actually completely different computers. Even so, the official still decided not to separate the different Surface Pro product lines. The success of this strategy depends on the fact that the threshold for using the Arm version has really been lowered.
