Microsoft suggests Call of Duty could come to Nintendo Switch

A recent post on the blog of Microsoft suggests that new titles of Call of Duty they could reach Nintendo Switch in the future. The beloved first-person shooter franchise hasn’t been on a Nintendo console since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, which was released on the Wii U. Although Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard and Call of Duty has led many to believe that the series will now be exclusive to Xbox, apparently it isn’t.

Microsoft recently purchased the publisher Action Blizzard, giving the Xbox creator ownership of massive franchises such as Call of Duty, StarCraft and Overwatch. This is likely to have massive repercussions for these beloved series, and many PlayStation owners are concerned that these franchises will become Xbox console exclusives in the future. However, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has assured players that previous contracts with the other gaming giants, Sony and Nintendo, will continue to be fulfilled after the purchase. This means that, even though Microsoft owns the franchise, Activision’s Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation for at least three years.

A new publication in the blog Microsoft reiterates this idea, revealing that Activision Blizzard franchises, such as Call of Duty, will continue to come out on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Nintendo’s inclusion in the release is a bit surprising, considering that Call of Duty has not reached a Nintendo console since 2013. The blog specifies that Call of Duty will continue to arrive on PlayStation after the current contracts expire, and that Microsoft is also, ” interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo’s successful platform.”This hints that future entries to the first-person shooter franchise could reach Nintendo Switchor a future Nintendo console, in the future.

Although Call of Duty: Vanguard was released recently, in November 2021, it seems that the next installment of the series could be revealed soon. The revelation of the 2022 Call of Duty has been joked by developer Infinity Ward, and most rumors suggest that the game will be a sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare. While little else is known about this upcoming installment, such an early announcement may be a response to Vanguard’s lukewarm reception last year. Thanks to the Microsoft blog post, fans can rest easy knowing that the next Call of Duty won’t be an Xbox exclusive.

The continued presence of Call of Duty on PlayStation is sure to be a relief for many gamers, but the mention of Nintendo is even more interesting. The Nintendo Switch has not yet received a single ticket from the iconic franchise, and fans would no doubt jump at the opportunity to play Call of Duty on the fly. In an ironic twist, Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard could have opened the door for the series to reach Nintendo Switch.
