“Microsoft Successfully Rewriting Parts of Windows into Rust for Higher Security”

From presentations at the recent BlueHat IL 2023 conference, we learn that Microsoft is successfully rewriting parts of Windows into Rust. The reason is higher security of the resulting code, especially memory.

For example, the font parser was rewritten, which, in addition to greater security, led to a 5-15% speed increase compared to the version written in C++. Rust also entered the Windows kernel, creating the first syscall written in this language. Some new libraries written in Rust are now part of the Windows Insider releases and should appear in one of the next system updates.
