Microsoft rolls out new Office design to all users

Together with the launch of Office 2021, Microsoft is finally rolling out the new look of the Office package. Office 365 subscribers can also admire the update now.

Since the summer beta testers can already get started with the new Office look. The new design is fresher than the current one, but it doesn’t come close to the radical redesign that was presented last year. In that concept, the traditional Office ribbon disappears completely. It is not clear whether Microsoft still wants to realize that ambition and whether the new Office look is now an intermediate step towards that goal.

The new look has the deadline of the launch of Office 2021 missed early October together with Windows 11, but is now widely available to everyone. For some, the new look is automatically enabled after the update, others can force it manually. To do that, click on the megaphone at the top right and check Try the new experience at. If you’re not a fan, you can pick up the slider again new but keep in mind that sooner or later the new design will become the standard.

Anyone who runs Office 2019 or older and does not have a Microsoft 365 subscription will miss out on the new look. Upgrading to Office 2021 is the only option to enjoy a fresher Office environment without a subscription fee.
